Research Associates
The story of the Korean War is too immense for any one person or any one organization to save. What is needed is an army of volunteers, each to work in their own area of interest and their own community to collect and save the history of the Korean War and the personal story of its participants. Toward this end the Korean War National Museum is creating a volunteer Research Associate program as described below.
There are three levels of Research Associate:
- Student Research Associate,
- Community Research Associate
- Professional Research Associate.
Student Research Associate
- Individuals who are currently enrolled as students in K-12 can register as a Student Research Associate after meeting the following requirements:
-
- Dedicate at least 20 hours of labor in the pursuit of information on the Korean War that can be used on this web site. This includes:
- Interviews with local Korean War Veterans.
- Obtaining the loan of material (letters, photographs, documents) from local Korean War Veterans for copying for the Korean War National Museum archives.
- Searching hometown newspapers for stories on the Korean War.
- Interviewing immigrants from Korea for their experiences in the Korean War.
- Searching the Internet for material on the Korean War.
- Other activities that aid in saving the story of the Korean War.
- Submit this material for review to a Community Research Associate who has registered with the Korean War National Museum Research Director as advisor for Student Research Associates. The Community Research Associate will forward the material to the Korean War National Museum Research Director along with the name of the student author of the material submitted.
- Student Research Associates will all receive a certificate each year in June naming them as Student Research Associate of the Korean War National Museum. The certificate will indicate the number of hours the student spent on their project. Certificates will be sent to each Community Research advisor for presentation to the students at an appropriate ceremony.
